ShabbosHalachos of Merakeid

The melacha of Merakeid (sifting) is separating the “good” from the “bad”. The laws for these Halachos are the same as the laws of the melacha of Separating. The difference is that Sifting means when the desired item falls and the undesired item remains in place, and Separating means when the undesired item is removed from the desired one. However, in practice, it makes no difference whether an action is prohibited under one melacha or another.
