One may not gather anything which grew from the ground in the place that it grew (known as Me’amer) [1]שמ, ט. ורמב"ם (שבת ח, ה). והטעם דדוקא עימור לא שייך אלא בגדולי קרקע, ע' אבנ"ז (קיא, ד) הטעם דקצת מלאכות שייכים רק בגדולי קרקע, כגון דישה, משום דרק קללת האדמה גרמה להוציא חיטה בתוך מלבוש וצריך להסירה, משא"כ פטריות אינם יונקים מן האדמה ולכן לא נתקללה ואינה צריכה מלבוש. וגם עימור, משום שזה גם מחסרון האדמה שהוא מוציא שבלים שבלים וצריך עימור. ולכן מלאכות כאלו יש להם שייכות מיוחדת אל הקרקע. . However, gathering any item which did not grow from the ground, or gathering produce in any other location, (e.g., indoors) is permitted [2]מ"ב (שמ, לז) .

One should not press together sticky fruits, such as dates or raisins, if they will become firmly stuck together [3]שמ, י, ע"פ מ"ב (ס"ק לח, בשם חיי"א) שמצדד דאפי' בבית חייב משום מעמר. .

If one has many fruits that scattered outdoors over a large area, one may not collect them, as it looks like the way one collects fruit during the week [4]שלה, ה .

Examples:

· It is permitted to gather fallen apples in one’s kitchen

· It is forbidden to rake leaves or collect grass clippings [5]וגם אסור משום מוקצה
